My Memories of the Island_Taipei
2023
21.5 inch x 15.5 inch
Ballpoint pen, Procreate
The creative inspiration is derived from the various life trajectory and strange phenomena I've encountered growing up in Taiwan. This scene depicts my birthplace – Taipei. Taipei is portrayed as a fragile cake with various layers. Atop the cake, you can see the diverse communities of Taipei. These groups sometimes gather in unity, but at other times, they attack each other, making the cake appear as a delicate battleground.

My Memories of the Island_Hualien
2023
21.5 inch x 15.5 inch
Ballpoint pen, Procreate
The creative inspiration comes from the various life traces of Taiwan, where I grew up, as well as the strange phenomena I've felt and witnessed. The scene portrays my grandmother's home in Hualien. The raccoon symbolizes my own persona, while the hands of Guanyin Bodhisattva represent my grandmother's faith, depicting the warm ambiance surrounding our family. The Central Range extends to both sides, representing different cities and lands. On the left, figures in authority dance atop a cake symbolizing power. To the right, mountains, waterfalls, and forests are depicted, where a corporate giant lifts a waterfall, attempting to extract resources from this natural setting. In the underwater world below, a large fish is covered with eyes, seemingly monitoring the ocean, playfully surrounding pufferfish to convey a sense of ethereal floating. I aim to use monochromatic line art to describe the abundant emotions of this island and the little stories that occur in its various corners.

My Memories of the Island_City of the Future
2023
21.5 inch x 15.5 inch
Ballpoint pen, Procreate
The creative inspiration is derived from the various life trajectory and strange phenomena I've encountered growing up in Taiwan. This scene delves into an uncertain future, possibly a hundred or even ten thousand years from now. Due to the intense collision between the Eurasian and Philippine Sea tectonic plates, a massive trench might form, splitting the Taiwan Strait. Taipei could be submerged by floodwaters. The people will be compelled to establish new homes and find innovative ways to adapt to the devastated environment or venture across the vast chasm in search of new, uncharted territories for migration.

Elders are treasures
2023
116.5 inch x 20.8 inch
canvas, oil painting, fluorescent acrylic, sequins, gold foil
Eastern proverb says, “Elders are treasures.” This means that the elderly, with their vast experiences, can provide solutions to the younger generation, offering them insights into life lessons and wisdom, just like a treasure. They are the strong, warm support of a family. Yet, modern society often sees generational conflicts and neglect towards the elderly, especially in aging populations.
Sadly, such scenarios are increasingly prevalent in societies with an aging population and have even occurred within my own surroundings. The aim of this artwork is to convey the “treasure” concept and hopes that these “treasures” remain healthy and receive the respect they deserve. The elderly figure in the painting, seemingly reverting to the vitality of their youth, wields a water gun and walking stick. Despite having a urine bag attached, they assertively aim a defiant strike at the ungrateful younger generation. As the saying goes,“Ignoring an elder's advice leads to setbacks.”

Grandma from Zhongli
2023
25.5 inch x 20.8 inch
canvas, oil painting, gold foil
While the elderly are rich in experience and often manage and lead all household affairs, sometimes the generational gap in concepts can lead to unexpected and amusing situations. This work was inspired by childhood tomb-sweeping events in Zhongli. In the Hakka village of Zhongli, every family has to prepare the traditional ‘three offerings’(chicken, pork, fish) for the ancestors. Relatives would always compare whose chicken was bigger or whose pork was fresher. In our pursuit of fresh and clean food, we vacuum-sealed the animals. However, this act was criticized by a respected elder who believed that the ancestors wouldn't be able to partake in the vacuum-sealed food. This incident, far beyond our understanding, became an unforgettable memory for me.

My Grandpa
2023
25.5 inch x 20.8 inch
canvas, oil painting
The phrase “Elders are treasures- Grandpa'' encapsulates the idea that having a healthy and long-lived elderly member in the family can bring blessings and good fortune. My grandfather from Hualien embodies this concept. At the age of 88, he remains vigorous and spirited. On one occasion, Grandpa brought a squash, intending for us to take it back to Taipei to cook winter melon and pork rib soup. Much to our surprise, when Grandma cut it open, it turned out to be a watermelon. This incident kept our family laughing for a long time. Grandpa, like the treasure in our home, always has our best interests at heart and serves as a pillar of strength for our family.

New Human- 01
2023
51 inch x 41.6 inch
oil painting
This is a speculative depiction of the appearance of future humans. It questions whether human millennia or even centuries from now will resemble us today – a topic continually pondered by contemporary humans. A significant portion of evolution is influenced by environmental changes. After enduring several centuries, humans might adapt to various extreme climates, developing a hard-exterior resembling crustacean, with hair evolutionarily shed and no longer growing.

Our civilized society, engulfed by nature's wrath, was razed to the ground, reminiscent of a second mass cleansing following the extinction of the dinosaurs. The land began its rejuvenation process. Through continuous reproduction, the organs of the new humans have gradually adapted to various extreme climates. This evolution has led to the emergence of different human races, and these beings are now capable of perceiving across dimensions into alternate realms.

The essence of evolution implies a myriad of biological entities. Species gradually evolve, transitioning from one form to another. Within each species, every individual exhibits slight variations, leading to the new humans manifesting distinct physical traits and organs in their appearance.

“Ego”- Present
2023
28.5 inch x 23.8 inch
canvas, oil painting
During this period, emotional and psychological trauma led to persistent feelings of anxiety and depression. The color palette draws inspiration from moldy stains and fungi, symbolizing how my heart decayed like mold growing at the moment of the traumatic event. Other lines in the artwork depict brain cells, verbal attacks, and negative emotions.

“Ego”- The Past
2023
116.5 inch x 20.8 inch
canvas, oil painting
Having spent much of my early years in solitude, loneliness compelled me to indulge in fantasies, conjuring scenarios where I converse with myself or assume different roles to escape reality. This tendency later became one of my quirks. During this period, I was also inspired to become an artist, filled with dreams and aspirations for the future.
